But what does it mean to feel “stuck”? This often describes NEET young adults—those who are Not in Education, Employment, or Training. These capable young people, for various reasons, have stopped moving forward. They’re not working or studying, and they’re often socially disconnected, spending countless hours on games and devices. They feel overwhelmed and paralyzed by overthinking, unable to take meaningful steps toward their future. They’re also very lonely, longing for connection and direction. Their families feel frustrated and helpless, while the young adults themselves feel something must be wrong with them.
For the past 9 years, I’ve worked one-on-one with young adults in this situation, developing a unique approach focused on three critical skill areas: executive functioning skills, practical life skills, and self-valuing skills. Coaching is uniquely helpful because it’s non-judgmental, forward-focused, and based on the belief that each young adult is whole and capable. Coaching helps them clarify who they are today, define what they want, and encourage small, achievable steps to reach those goals. Coaching is action-focused.
That’s why I’m thrilled to announce my first group course, Success Streaks, with registration opening in December for a January 2025 start. This 4-week online program combines video lessons, practical tools, and five group coaching sessions that foster camaraderie, accountability, and meaningful progress. Success Streaks is designed to help young adults aged 18-29 who feel stalled reconnect with their strengths, break free from the cycle of feeling “stuck,” and rebuild self-respect and confidence with each small but steady step they take.
For parents, Success Streaks offers a path to peace of mind, knowing their young adult is moving forward with support. As a parent of three young adults in their 20s, I understand how deeply we care and hope for our kids’ success. Like all parents, I want my children to surpass me in their achievements and to have a life filled with purpose and fulfillment. But for families with struggling young adults, this journey is incredibly hard and often painful. Every single parent I’ve worked with has already tried a heartbreaking number of things, with nothing creating the lasting change that both parents and young adults have been hoping for. They’re tired of having to coach their kids themselves—they want to simply love and support them while someone else steps in as a guide.
This work with young adults is not a sudden miracle. I respect each young individual’s unique pace and speed. Avoidance patterns can be ingrained and may take time to soften and overcome. Some young adults, like one recent client, Jason, who fully embraced the process, zip through skill-building in a matter of five months. Others take years to find their way. My job is to support, love, and guide them as they continue to make progress, no matter their speed.
Success Streaks activates young adults and helps them take responsibility for their lives, building self-respect, a sense of direction, and renewed hope. This allows parents to support their young adults more appropriately and lovingly without needing to structure their days for them. The relationship shifts to one of support rather than instruction, fostering a healthy path forward for everyone. I will post another blog here again once the registration link goes live.
